“Election News”
In General:
Fund raising rules prevent
a judicial candidate from knowing who
contributed to their campaign, that is why they use a committee, however, a fund
raiser can be held for a candidate and the candidate can be present with the
donors. Don’t ask how this is consistent with the supposed confidentiality of
donations.

FINANCIAL REPORT FILED
BY THE COMMITTEE TO
ELECT MICHAEL THORNSBURY
DONOVAN BECKETT
TREASURER REVEALS:
On or About September 7, 2007 before there was any announced
candidate to run against Thornsbury, Menis Ketchum an Attorney that regularly
practices before Thornsbury, and currently represents a party that has a wrongful
death case interest pending before the judge and scheduled for hearing May 19,
2008, held a fund raiser in Huntington for Thornsbury and raised over $40,000
from out of county residents who cannot vote in this county, most of them
lawyers.
The initial campaign report
filed April 4, 2008 shows around $47,500 in total donations up until the March
29, 2008 reporting date and only around $7500 in county resident donations,
with four of those being $1000.00 lawyer donations. No donations are reported
after Sept 7, 2007 so nobody reportedly donated for about five months prior to
March 29 2008.
This
means about 80% of every Thornsbury sign in a yard, is paid for with out of
county money, 80% of every radio ad,
80% of every button, 80% of every campaign headquarters, and 80% of every
Thornsbury effort, is paid for by out of county residents.
